Nursing is a Work of Heart

Meet Cyra, an aspiring RN

"My passion for nursing grew stronger when I became a patient at St. Jude Children's Hospital and got cured of cancer."

Meet Cyra, a Sophomore at Loewenberg College of Nursing, University of Memphis. We reached out to her to get a glance of her student nursing life, it's challenges and lessons that came along way.

Why did you decide to take up Nursing?
"Ever since I was a kid, I always looked up to my mother, who is a Nurse; I always see her as a diligent and hard-working woman who is very passionate about her family and work. My passion for Nursing grew stronger when I became a patient at St. Jude Children's Hospital and got cured of cancer; then I decided to take up nursing and promised myself to go back and repay them when I succeed."

What are the few challenges that you experienced in Nursing school?
"As an N1 student, I have already experienced a few of the challenges going through my first semester at nursing school— adjusting to my nursing classes, managing time, staying up late, and most importantly, getting over anxieties, disappointments, and breakdowns.
Though there may be challenges and downs along the way, I still had a pleasant experience. I enjoyed every bit of my labs, had great professors, got to talk with peers who have the same interest as mine, and best of all, gained new knowledge that will help me in my future endeavors."

"My goals are to finish nursing school, pass my NCLEX-RN exam, then hopefully work at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital while studying to become a Nurse Practitioner. These may be a lot, but with my perseverance and my family's support, I may be able to accomplish this."

Thank you Cyra! Your passion and dedication to Nursing will surely come a long way. The world definitely needs more passionate future nurses like you!

We can't wait to see you earning that RN in your name soon. We salute you!

Happy National Student Nurses day to all dedicated and passionate nursing students!
